Our extra-curricular highlights
Debating and public speaking
Students can develop their thinking, communication and teamwork skills through debating and public speaking. At Coogee PS, all students from Kindergarten to Year 6 participate in public speaking, building confidence, clarity, and the ability to engage an audience. In Years 5 and 6, students also have the opportunity to take part in debating, where they develop teamwork, critical thinking, and respectful argument.
These experiences celebrate student voice and equip our students with lifelong communication skills.
Creative and performing arts
All students take part in weekly specialist art lessons in our dedicated art room, guided by a specialist teacher. Instrument tuition is also available on site outside school hours, with opportunities to join our school bands. In addition, students enjoy rich classroom programs in drama, dance, and music, highlighted by a whole-school production every two years. Beyond the classroom, students can participate in choir and a range of dance groups, including lyrical, jazz, and hip hop.
Together, these programs foster creativity, self-expression, and a love of the arts.
Trips and excursions
Our students enjoy a wide range of excursions and incursions that bring learning to life through real-world experiences. Year 4 attend a one-night Sport and Recreation camp, Year 5 spend two nights at the Great Aussie Bush Camp, and Year 6 take part in a three-night excursion to Canberra.
These opportunities, along with other excursions and incursions across the year, allow students to explore, learn, and try new things. They also help students develop resilience, independence, and collaboration, building confidence and showing how their learning connects to the wider world.
